What is Fabrics?

There is no doubt that any substance made from fibers through weaving or knitting. The term “textile” refers to a wide range of fiber-based products, such as fibers, yarns, filaments, threads, and other fabric kinds. The term “textiles” used to only refer to woven cloths. What is a Fabrics printing?

Using pigments, dyes, or other materials in the form of patterns, printing is a procedure used to decorate textile fibers. Although they appear to have evolved from hand painting fabrics, such techniques are also very old.

Techniques involved in TIE and DYE Fabrics

Tie-dye includes using tying to apply dye to specific fabric areas. The undyed cloth appears in the fabric’s basic color and takes on patterns based on how the fabric was folded, crumpled, scrunched, or twisted before tying. This article discusses the many fabric manipulation techniques you can use to create the precise patterns and designs you want.

Select your Fabrics

Choose what exactly you’ll tie-dye (sweatshirts, T-shirts, tube socks, and cotton underwear are simple to find and ideal for at-home wear) as well as the materials you’ll employ before you can start dyeing.

You only need some brilliantly colored vegetables, Hillary Taymour, the designer behind cult sustainable brand Collina Strada, claims. Her favorites are beets and turmeric.

Tung, on the other hand, like utilizing dye powders from Dharma Trading. You’ll also need gloves, buckets or pots for your dye (Sood advises against using kitchen pots, FYI), a squirt bottle (if you prefer to apply the dye rather than dunk the clothing in it), soap (if using used clothing), buckets or pots for your dye (Sood cautions against using kitchen pots, FYI), rubber bands or clamps, depending on your preferred method (more on that below), and a place to dry your finished products (a clothing line or drying rack will work).

Combined your dye with warm water

Once you’ve decided which dyes to use, simply combine them in a squirt bottle, pot, or bucket with warm water.

The effects are a little bit earthier, unexpected, and less dazzling and perfect because I like the colors to be a little bit complex and irregular, according to Tung.

To take things a step further, He advises, “Add some salt as a mordant for cotton or vinegar if dying wool, and then stir until completely blended.”

You don’t want any dye flecks or chunks at the top or bottom, she said.

Create For Your Fabric a tie-dye pattern of your choice

When tie-dying, there are countless patterns to pick from.

Sood claims that you may scrunch your clothing and knot it with rubber bands, fold your clothing and clamp it together, or even sew your clothing together to get a variety of effects.

Shibori is a Japanese art of tie-dying, and she loves to experiment with it to make motifs and various patterns.

Depending on how much free time you have, it can either become incredibly intricate and detailed or abstract.

Additionally, she employs a method known as tegumo, which “involves folding fabric into circular pleats and attaching them with rubber bands to form either circular-, diamond-, or square-shaped motifs.”

She also proposes adopting an Indian technique called Leheriya, which includes twisting fabric diagonally and looping it with rope to produce stripes, and tying a marble or di inside of the aforementioned circular pleats.

Fold, tie and knot the fabric as tightly in your preferred manner  as you can to prevent the colour from penetrating the fabric.

Dyeing Proper

You can either use fabric dyes or acrylic paint diluted with a textile medium.

You can adhere to the instructions on the dye packet if you’re using dyes.

Start with the light color first when tying and dying with many colors.

For instance, if you plan to dye your fabric with both yellow and violet, start with the yellow.

Complete the washing, drying, curing, and dyeing.

Continue by dying with the following color now.

I coloured my hair like this:

Your pot’s water should be heated to 70 degrees Celsius.

In this water, dissolve the color while stirring constantly; (Afterward you can strain the dye solution through cheesecloth fabric to make sure there are no undissolved particles if you find the dye is not dissolved).

On a scrap, check the color intensity.

Extinguish the flame.

Make a decision now regarding the coloring process.

You can either use squeeze bottles, paint brushes, or sponges to apply this dye to cloth that is laid flat on a covered surface, or you can fully or partially submerge the fabric in the dye.

You can use a variety of colors at once when applying paint on the surface.

Depending on the type of dye you are using, you might need to use the microwave method to heat set the dye if you are squirting it on the fabric.

Depending on the directions on your dye packet, soak your knotted cloth in the dye solution for 5 to 15 minutes if you’re doing immersion dyeing.

The clothing should be wrung out until it is moist but not leaking.

Use wax or any other thickening agents in certain regions if you wish to avoid coloring them.

Curing Proper

The fabric can be kept in a plastic cover to cure after dyeing.

In a warm location, you can keep it like this for 4 to 24 hours.

The fabric can be kept in this state because it is completely dried.

Washing Proper

After that, but before untying the tie or folding the fabric, give it a cold water rinse.

Once the knots or folds are undone, keep rinsing the area until the water is nearly clean.

Launder once again and use detergent.

When using textile paints or other media for tie dye, you must iron the fabric for roughly 5 minutes at medium heat to heat set the paint before washing.

Drying Proper

Dry area distant from the sun.

Re-tie and dye if you want more designs in various colors.

However, once the initial dying is finished, it must be completely dried; in other words, rinse and dry separately however many times you dye.

Don’t forget to avoid getting dye in your eyes or on your hands.

Wear gloves and safety glasses.

When combining dyes, wear a dust mask.

CONCLUSION

It is very important to know and understand that If you want intricate multi-color photo-realistic graphics with the full color spectrum accessible but in a small number of lots on light-colored polyester textiles, sublimation is an excellent solution.

So also, If you want a lot of cloth or garments printed with the same design and don’t mind having only a few color options, screen printing is the method to choose (one-color or limited color design or lettering)
