Introduction

Even while it is always fascinating to look at flagship smartphones and be amazed by their technological innovations, the majority of consumers will actually choose a midrange handset since it is more cost-effective. In the current market, midranger products move the bulk of the volume, thus it makes sense that competition can be fierce. This is especially true for the competitive price band between NGN 245,239.34 and NGN 326,985.78 where the Samsung Galaxy A54 and the Xiaomi Poco F5 are both available. On paper, both are excellent phones, each with unique strengths. Additionally, both gadgets appear to be easily accessible in the majority of global markets.

At least based on our specs pages, the A54 is the undisputed winner in terms of popularity, but there is still much more to this comparison to go into.

Comparing Both Phones

Despite the Poco F5 clearly having a size edge over the Galaxy A54, the two phones are about the same size. The Galaxy’s 6.4-inch, 19.5:9 display is outclassed by its 6.67-inch, 20:9 display on the iPhone. The Galaxy A54, meanwhile, measures 8.2 mm thick compared to 7.9 mm and 76.7 mm wide, making it somewhat wider and thicker than the Poco F5. In addition, the 5,000 mAh battery packs on both tablets are the exact same size. The Poco F5 has a larger display than the Galaxy A54 despite being significantly lighter. It weighs 181 grams as opposed to 202 grams for the Samsung. The Poco F5’s plastic back panel weighs less than the Gorilla Glass 5 back on the Galaxy A54, which may be a big contributing factor to the gap.

Both devices have a plastic center frame and Gorilla Glass 5 front glass, with the Poco F5 having an additional Gorilla Glass 5 front glass. However, the Galaxy A54 receives the needed IP67 grade, whilst the Poco is only given an IP53 classification. This is a good opportunity to note out that although the Samsung has a more modern type of under-display fingerprint reader, the Xiaomi uses a classic capacitive reader side-mounted inside the power button. In typical Xiaomi fashion, the Poco F5 has an IR blaster while the Galaxy A54 does not.

As was already mentioned, the two phones’ displays are notably different in size. The Galaxy A54 is smaller, with a diagonal size of 6.4 inches and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The 6.67-inch display of the Poco F5 is reliable and has a consistent 20:9 aspect ratio. Both displays feature a FullHD+ resolution, and in person, their sharpness seems to be very comparable. In our tests, the greatest brightness that both phones can produce is very nearly 1,000 nits. They therefore function just as well in bright outdoor environments.

Both phones have displays that support HDR, which is important for HDR playback. Since the Poco F5 supports Dolby Vision in addition to the HDR10 and HDR10+ standards that are supported by both phones, it does edge out the Galaxy A54 in this category.  Read More on Sony Xperia 5 V Review Spec

When it comes to color accuracy and reproduction, Samsung has a strong reputation. The A54 performs admirably in this regard, excelling particularly in the sRGB color space. In terms of precision, the Poco F5 isn’t far behind, although it does have the advantage of a 12-bit panel as opposed to Samsung’s 8-bit one. Less color banding results in some demanding photos as a result.

Both phones can handle automated refresh rate switching to balance smoothness and battery life at a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

Comparing two cameras

The Poco F5 and Galaxy A54’s camera settings are virtually equivalent. The Samsung has a 50MP, f/1.8, 1/1.56″, 1.0-m main camera with OIS and PDAF. Regarding the Poco F5, it sports an OIS and PDAF-equipped 64MP, f/1.8 main camera with 1/2″-sized, 0.7-m pixels. Additionally, both phones have a fixed-focus, dedicated ultrawide camera; the Xiaomi has an 8MP sensor, while the Samsung has a 12MP one. A dedicated macro camera with a 5MP on the Samsung and a 2MP on the Xiaomi is located on the rear of both phones. We have said that these settings are quite comparable.

Comparing two charging velocity

There is an obvious winner when it comes to charging speed, even though battery life may be comparable between the two phones. That would be the 67W fast charging method of the Xiaomi Poco F5. The Galaxy A54 can only get 25W of PD+PPS charging in the meanwhile. It is clear how the billing rates differ. The Samsung charges to 56% within 30 minutes, while the Poco F5 reaches 83%. On the A54, a full charge takes just over an hour, while on the Poco F5, it takes just under 50 minutes.
